Écritures Anciennes

The Kuba cloths (DR Congo) are the inspiration for this series. Traditionally they were used as a wrapped skirt worn during ceremonies and festivities.

I am fascinated by the movement created by the signs, the rhythm that animates the surface, giving it a lyrical dimension.

The eye moves from one sign to another as to “read” a visual script. The motifs metamorphose into an imaginary alphabet. Thus a story is born from this playful and ancient narrative.
